Billy is a Rock Star

More speed. Cool new features. Billy has been in the ZONE today.

So here's where we diverge. The competitive publishing space online can be split into two primary approaches to the market.

1. On one side you have companies that are lovingly constructing an individual site about a single topic. In some case they extend to a small network of 3-4 sites about closely related topics. Achieving significant scale is extremely difficult with this model. The people and technology costs limit the economically viable niches.

2. On the other side you have companies that try to create a one-size-fits-all destination. The resulting product is the online equivalent to the Saturday Evening Post.

LOUD3R represents a completely different take on how to publish online. Our focus has been to create a system for launching niche publications at significantly different scale than example 1 and with considerably greater quality and focus than example 2. LOUD3R is the future of online publishing.

Check out the newest sites in the network.

Duck Alignment

This week and next week we are busy preparing for UTR and the June 3 launch of the LOUD3R network. Yesterday I did our first run through of the talk with Shay Nowick on the phone. Her feedback was pointed and very helpful. She pitches LOUD3R better than I do. Back to the drawing board.

On the Road

I am off to San Francisco this morning. Item 1 is meeting with the Stage Two guys. We are prepping for Under the Radar on June 3. LOUD3R will be presenting.

Later in the day I will be giving a talk at AOL. It's the first time for this particular talk. It's still a work in progress. The brief from AOL was to talk about my experience getting things done in a large organization. Here's my basic outline.

- How to run a brothel in a war zone.
- Doctors Without Borders
- Zero Sum: The Economics of Media

More Semi-Secret Sites

Adrianne and Jennifer have done a fantastic job with the new look and feel. Last night we started merging the new look and feel with the dev code. Things went pretty smoothly. There are still a number of type tweaks required.

Secret

The LOUD3R team is hard at work on a big splash June 3 launch of a gaggle of new sites, a fresh new design, personalization and hot topics. We are building the sites in almost plain view. A couple of the sites are accessible as private betas right now. The graphics are incomplete, but you can start checking out the new aggregation engine at work.
